How much argon does a benchtop OES use?
It depends on the chamber design. A sealed chamber with cyclic argon flushing, as on the Exquis T4, consumes far less than an open-flush design — which is what makes high daily test counts affordable.
Can an OES analyse an unknown sample?
Yes, within the matrices it is calibrated for. The software identifies the base metal and quantifies against the working curves; a material completely outside the calibrated matrices needs a new curve built first.
